Philosophy
The Connection Atelier is grounded in the belief that human flourishing depends upon the quality of the relationships we cultivate within ourselves, between ourselves and others, and throughout our communities. The philosophy is expressed through The Connection Atelier Framework for Relational Architecture - an approach to understanding and intentionally shaping the conditions, relationships, and pathways that support our capacity to become, create, contribute, and flourish.

Relational Architecture considers how these three dimensions of connection interact to shape our capacity to become, create, contribute, and flourish. The framework guides how I work with women to understand and intentionally shape the conditions, relationships, and pathways that support greater alignment within themselves, in their relationships, and in the lives and work they are creating.
The Work
The Connection Atelier works with women leaders, founders, entrepreneurs, and creatives who are navigating meaningful change - personally, professionally, or both - and want to move forward with greater clarity, alignment, and intention.
Private Advisory: High-touch, Identity-level advisory and thought partnership for women navigating transition, expansion, reinvention, and the next expression of who they are, how they lead, and what they are here to create.
Connection Intensives: Immersive private experiences that create space to step outside the momentum of everyday life, explore what may be limiting or calling you forward, and gain greater clarity about what comes next.
Relational Strategy: Strategic advising for individuals and organizations seeking to intentionally shape relationships, collaborations, communities, gatherings, and environments that foster trust, meaningful connection, and human flourishing.
Who This Is For
The Connection Atelier works with women leaders, founders, entrepreneurs, and creatives who have built full and accomplished lives - and sense (or know) that something within them is asking for more: more meaning, greater alignment, deeper connection, or a different way of living, leading and contributing.
They may be at a threshold - reconsidering a role or relationship, navigating a transition, expanding their leadership or visibility, or simply recognizing that what brought them here may not be what carries them forward.
Often, the next chapter is not yet fully visible. There may be a desire to create or contribute in a new way, alongside questions about identity, whole health, relationships, purpose, and what is truly worth carrying forward.
The Connection Atelier offers a private, thoughtful space to explore these questions, strengthen the conditions that support becoming, and discern what wants to emerge next - with greater clarity, capacity, and intention.
A Foundation of Experience
Whitney Harrelson Ortiz is a relational architect, advisor, and community builder whose work draws upon decades of experience spanning the nonprofit, private, and public sectors. Her perspective has been shaped by a life and career spent connecting people, cultures, ideas, and disciplines - and by a deep curiosity about the conditions that allow individuals, relationships, and communities to flourish.
Her experience spans global policy and development, entrepreneurship, business, philanthropy, community-building, and whole health. In addition to founding The Connection Atelier, Whitney is the founder of Eliana's Light, a non-profit she established in 2017 in loving memory of one of her daughters to support the whole health and wellbeing of families caring for children with complex medical conditions. She is also co-owner and Executive Vice President of SIS Global Solutions, a communications business she runs with her husband that helps people bridge language and cultural differences through simultaneous interpretation.
Whitney's approach brings together research- and evidence-informed training in women-centered coaching, mindfulness, meditation, and whole health with relational insight and decades of real world experience navigating leadership, caregiving, entrepreneurship, community, and change. These intersecting experiences have informed her emerging philosophy of Relational Architecture: an exploration of how the conditions, relationships, and pathways within human systems can be intentionally shaped to support becoming, meaningful contribution, and human flourishing.
Based in Washington, DC, Whitney has lived and worked across cultures and brings a global perspective to both her professional and personal life. She and her husband, who is from a different culture and country, are raising their teenage daughter in a multicultural family shaped by curiosity, connection, and an appreciation for the many ways people experience and move through the world.
How I Work
I work at the level of identity, relationships, and the deeper patterns and conditions that shape how women live, lead, connect, create, and contribute.
My approach considers the whole person and the relational world around her - exploring what is supporting her, what may be constraining her, and what might need to shift as she moves toward what comes next.
Through thoughtful inquiry, relational insight, deep presence, and intentional partnership, I help women see themselves and their circumstances with greater clarity, recognize patterns and possibilities that may be difficult to see from within, and shape the conditions that allow their next expression to emerge.
